The severe dependence of basic chemicals on the fossil industry not only causes serious global environmental problems, but also hinders the sustainable development of the entire society. To address this issue, the electrocatalysis of platform chemicals derived from biomass provides a promising solution for the targeted preparation of high-value chemicals. Among various electrocatalysts, COFs based electrocatalysts have aroused great enthusiasm among researchers in the past decade due to their clear structure and large specific surface area. In this key review, we focus on the important viewpoints on the design, synthesis, and progress of COF based electrocatalysts in the upgrading of chemical electrocatalysis on biomass derived platforms. By incorporating metallic materials into the COFs framework, we provide a reasonable design of COFs based electrocatalysts, and then adjust the local coordination environment and microstructure to facilitate effective access to active centers, mass transport and electron transfer. This review provides a comprehensive understanding of the design principles of COF based platform molecules and their derivatives electrocatalysts. Specifically, we conducted in-depth research on the relationship between the structure and performance of COF based electrocatalysts, as well as their synergistic effects, with the aim of providing clues for the future design of next-generation electrocatalysts.
